can't say enough great things about joe nice
way back in the day, the first time he came to toronto for that show at elmo, me and muffin were still doing the rinseout show at ckln 88.1 fm (rip), and somehow capro (it was you, right capro? love) arranged for him to come down and play a set at the radio before the gig.
he was (and i'm sure still is) just a lovely man. pure enthusiasm, riddims, and joy. took off his shoes and played his set at the radio in his sock feet, bouncing the whole time.
we had just recently moved out of the basement into the new ckln studio, we were still sussing out the frequencies in the new place, we made significant progress that night wrt to figuring out bass in the new studio and how sound vibrations and frequencies behaved in the new space.
i don't know what styles he is playing now ... but thinking about the whole dubstep vs dubstep vs brostep vs noise vs old school vs hipsters vs skrillex vs whatever else ... ie all that stuff that seems to be going on with dubstep right now ... i think joe nice maybe can provide some antidote or at least a night where all that shit doesn't matter and it all comes together.
then again, to be honest, i don't know shit about any of that shit. i do know what is good and what is not.
i think (i hope?) he'll play proper riddims that make you not think any of that other shite/drama. heavy, yes ... steppin, yes ... music, yes ... noise, no ... bassface, yesss ... lovely, definitely.
i do know that i'll be there.
also, 40hz sound system! yes. best sound system in the city. imo. no disrespect to dubrock and others.
Chase
ps: wasn't that elmo show the birth of "5" in toronto ?
