training aside, rolling jiu jitsu and grappling in general is just a far more intense workout than virtually anything you can do in a gym

Have you done any boxing or muay thai?

yes but very little. you generally buy memberships that allow you to attend any class you want, so that includes bjj, wrestling, boxing, kickboxing and whatever else they offer (tae kwon do, judo, whatever). i just fell in love with jiu jitsu and started only going to those classes. although, i think that was a product of the academy i was at, in that the instruction was poorly thought out with regards to integrating beginners into the kickboxing classes with guys who you could go home and watch on the score fighting series. in a big gym in toronto though. I'm sure they bring beginners along very well.

I was asking more to see if you have actually compared the intensity of the workouts involved with grappling to that of boxing/muay thai.

oooh. yes, its not comparable. grappling is continuous strain. it works every muscle in the body simultaneously, ones you never knew you had, plus cardio.

thats not to say boxing isn't a great workout as well. go home tonight and try to shadowbox ten 3 minute rounds in your garage/basement/living room. you won't be able to

I box so I will be able to but I see your point.

Have you heard anything good or bad about Salvosa BJJ in Scarborough?
