It's not going to be made illegal. The only thing that is changing is the way the pill is made. It will be hard to crush and won't be able to be diluted and injected. Aside from that it will do what it was designed to do. Relieve pain.

Canada has stopped producing OxyContin and has now started to make OxyNEO which has the same pain relieving effects but is apparently harder to break down or crush for drug abuse. It's described as a "new formulation" of the drug.
