i have nothing but a passing interest in baseball. TSN has the jays at#15 in the power rankings...is this about right?

I'd say that's conservative but fair we've got a couple weak spots in our line up. What the Jays need to do is fix their outfield and get a couple of heavy hitters. Now is the time in the rebuilding process to trade some early round pics with our problem guys and fill out what is a really solid team. Vegas has the Jays at 40-1 to win the world series. I don't think the playoffs are a stretch at all from there, who knows. If we can make it this year we can win it. 22-4 is our pre-season record best in baseball! The Jays seem to be geling quite nicely and there appears to be a real "team atmosphere" which can be huge, have you ever worked a job with people you love vs people you hate, the difference is night and day.

Jays are a top 10 team in the league.

Unfortunately, were still the 4th best in the AL east

those are two of our strongest points. You dont get a better right fielder in the entire league than Bautista
Colby Rasmus in Centrefield oozes potential and left field is a platoon between Thames/Snider/R Davis which is average at worst. Weve also got rookies coming up that can upgrade if needed over the next year or so.

And power? Bautista is the #1 power hitter in the game. Lawrie raked 9 homers in 40 games... extrapolate that over a year and its almost 40. Arencibia hit 20 in his rookie season, thames can hit 20, Encarnacion can hit 20, rasmus can hit 20, lind can hit 20... not sure where we need more power.. if anything, we need guys who can get on base before our shit-ton of power hitters... no point in jacking dingers if nobodies on base

"power rankings" in baseball are retarded
its an uneven and completely unfair schedule
as the system stands are the jays "ranked" about 15?
    sure
are there 14 teams better than the jays?
    no chance
    yanks
    redsox
    rays
    rangers
    maybe the phillies
    maybe the angels
    maybe the d backs
    maybe the tigers

So you'd go with this squad no changes? I worry about center and left.

all that i would do is get a third starter

    everything else is fine.

we just gave up 4 pitchers for Colby Rasmus.. and weve got anthony gose waiting in the wings if he falters... Center field is set for a decade.

the team is still VERY young. Snider and Thames are both 25 or under... most guys arent playing in the league regularly at that age... there is no point in trading for guys who can step in NOW when we've got guys with higher ceilings who just need to grow into their roles.

Being a jays fan right now is about patient optimism... if they jays dont make another move whatsoever... we will still have one of the most talented squads in the majors in the next 2-3 years

The one thing I don't worry about is pitching. I agree with you about the 2-3 year thing. My thinking is that this season could be a big one for us so why and not go for it. I mean be cautious of course. Anyways nice to see some Jays fans around here. I think the one undeniable thing is that everyones excited for the season and that we're moving in the right direction.
