I doubt Man U has a deep enough squad to challenge for both the league & Europa. Outside of Nani, none of their players even showed up today. Rooney runs hot and cold, and him missing that sitter cost them big time today. I suppose chicharito would've made some difference today if he was healthy, but outside of those players they don't have any true game changers. Young & Welbeck flattered to deceive at the start of the year.

It'll be interesting to see Man City in Europa. The squad is big and deep enough that Mancini almost needs the extra games to keep all the players in it happy.

and what team does? don't tell me any of the previous Europa winners had deep enough squads to battle on both fronts. surely battling for the English title is harder than battling for the Portuguese one (in Porto's case) but the English title this year is highly unlikely, so you have to set priorities in motion. If you know that by mid February (usually a good indicator where you are at in the league, and when the Europa League playoffs start) you see yourself way out of the race in the Premier League....why not make the run for the EL?

It's only beneficial for the young players. Give them a sense of winning. Even if it's just some "sorry ass", "unprestigious" Europa League.

Roberto Mancini targets Europa League success | Mail Online

"Now let's win the Europa League, says City boss Mancini "
"'We go into the Europa league. It's another trophy and it's an important trophy for Manchester City,' Mancini told Sky Sports 2. "

    EAT IT!!!

now that's the attitude. i will be cheering for Man City to win the Europa League this year. I've always loved United as a team, but if the majority of their fans and the club feel that they are "above" this competition......

"nice history, shame about the club"

we have a big squad just a big injury list as well
young has fizzled but welbeck? nah hes done well enough everytime hes played
senior players need a kick up their backside, the youth need time to mature a bit
still a transition, we've played good football at times, once midfield sorts out defence will improve
complacency and underestimating teams did us in, we should have won all 3 home games

seeded for the last 32 round along with the 12 group winners
play at home in the 2nd leg
can't play English teams in the next round

currently, we could be drawn against:

    Porto
    Ajax
    Trabzonspor
    Plzen
    Hannover
    Legia Warsaw

wont make it that far anyway but europa final is sandwiched between the last two league games of the season.
