they've both won world cups, so according to mojo that should be a valid response that can't be argued.

    my reasoning in simple:

Vidic has fucked up Serbia's last 3 international outings: At the WC gave up penalty that let Australia advance. In qualifiers missed the PK that would have sent Estonia out of playoffs. And generally has played very poorly for his national team in the past 3 years, drawing constant critisism. This is the exact case Joe is trying to make for Messi but while Messi just keeps getting better for Argentina, Vidic is exactly the example of a player who is probably top 3 in the world in club games, but very average and not dependable in internationals.

Pique and Pyuol never had this problem internationally and perform at the same level for the club.

Doumbia: 2nd hat trick in a row, 4 goals in 3 CL matches, sets the RPL record for the most goals ever scored with 22 with 3 more games to go

    WHAT A GOAL

Cory, get used to this guy because he'll be wearing Chelsea's jersey in a year.

    ummmm

last time i checked vidic didn't play for spain - puyol and pique don't have a quarter of the work to do that vidic does at the international level.

    imagine vidic played for spain?

this is one of worst arguments yet.

are you gonna tell me that messi and iniesta are responsible for spain's least goals scored against record in the last WC?

as good as spain is, there are attackers and there are defenders. spain can score 5, but they don't win 5-4 cuz of shitty defense. they win 5-0.

Its true, Vidic has goofed up internationally on a few notable occasions. Most recently the missed penalty against Slovenia but still its a huge loss for the national team.

Sad to see him go but I can sort of sympathize with his motives. Better to dominate with your club team than risk injuries with a side that's doomed to fail at every major competition.

Nemanja is a phenomenal defender and a classy player, he will be sorely missed.

    so messi plays for argentina?

and i am totally crediting iniesta/xavi/silva etc for spain's goals against record - the other team barely touches the ball.

this is pretty simple reasoning to understand.

lol u know what i meant. barcelona syndrome.

still man, you can't deny that vidic fucked up on numerous occassions for serbia. when you're serbia's best player, you're supposed to perform better than your CB partner who plays for Crvena Zvezda or Partizan lool
    but that hasn't happened.

can't call a defender like that "best in the world". best in a club game? you may have an argument, but he did lose two finals to pique & puyol

sorry about the messi comment, that was a dickhead move, lol.

vidic can fuck up all he wants playing for serbia, he doesn't play with anywhere near the quality that pique/puyol do for spain and barca. pique is only of the most overrated players in world football - if he actually had to do any real defending for prolonged periods he would get found out fast.

pretty easy to defend when your team concedes 2 maybe 3 corners a game and you don't have to face and extended spells of pressure.

its not his fault obviously, but it what it is.

    Club team != National team

A few mistakes does not define a player's career. For every one mistake he's made the guy has put in hundreds of phenomenal performances for both club and country. Sure he missed a key penalty but why the fuck is a CB taking it in the first place? Over the past few years he has contributed greatly to the national team's defensive toughness and consistency. If not for him I doubt we would have even qualified for the last WC.

Taking into account his career at Man U I would definitely say top 5 no doubt. These things are highly subjective though.
