SPAIN :: CHOPSTICK DUBPLATE / LITTLE ISLAND RECORDS
Jacky Murda and his Chopstick label were responsible for putting out some of the best known ragga jungle records on the crispy 10” vinyl format. Jacky started his music career from an early age playing drums, recording local bands and mixing on his 1200s.
After moving to Montreal in 1994 Jacky set up his studio & began working on his own tunes using a 24 track digital setup complete with 8mm video cassettes to record multiple tracks at once. During this time, he started to get his first "Chopstick" dubplates voiced by local singers like Mikey Dangerous, Skill Man, and Dan Beats. He started playing out at clubs as a hip hop/reggae DJ and recorded local rappers over his beats in his spare time. Not happy with the restrictions of technology and only playing out other artist's records, Jacky made the decision to purchase a lathe to cut his own tunes to dubplates.
By 2000, Jacky was recording vocalists for his own tunes and put out a record by local producer Krinjah on his King Kong sound label which he mastered, cut and distributed.
In 2001, Jacky dropped the first Krinjah 10" on his King Kong Sound label (which he mastered, cut & distributed) and moved the studio down to Brooklyn to set up shop in the heart of New York. This is where he met and started working for local artists like Nardo Ranks, Terry Ganzie, Tuffist, Johnny Osbourne & Dawn Penn in 2002. During this time, Jacky was also recording sessions with Barrington Levy, Jr. Reid & Yami Bolo. The first group of chopstick 10"s dropped in 2002 came from these sessions.
Jacky also began working with Bass Nacho, and the sessions with Nacho provided material for three subsequent releases. By now he had written and voiced over 100 dubplates & began several successful European tours which focused on sets containing pure dubplates written by himself.
After a couple of tours with chopstick in Europe in 2003 and 2004, and signing of a distribution contract with Nu-Urban music in the UK, Jacky moved over to Europe. In 2008 Jacky met Lenny Roots during the licensing of a Jah Mason track, and the idea for "Chopstick Meets River Nile" (Jacky's latest album-which will be released November 2009) was born.
In Sept 2009 Jacky will be launching the new dubby label Little Island Records-distributed by S.T Holdings-once again featuring big artists like Jr Murvin, Jr Byles, Richie Spice, Bushman, General Levy, Top Cat and Demolition Man.
