i think it would be dope to have a thread devoted to production techniques.
what do YOU do when compressing?
what progs / plug ins do you use?
anything about engineering the sound we all love to make.
what do you think?
heres the tip i gave in needs' "i want to make a tune" thread on parallel compression in reason ( or any DAW, i used reason as the example)
Take one channel, say a kick drum, and bring that up to the mixer, use the insert send from that channel and feed it to a compressor. Now take the output of the compressor and bring it back on a completly different channel and viola! parallel compression.
using the spider audio splitter works wonders for this, and if you got reason 4, using the groovemixer to bring the compression back a few milliseconds late fattens it up even more.
also, try routing your second compression into say, a stereo imager, and widen it a bit... you could do the same with flanger / delay / unison / phasing ( but dont use phasing if your using the groovemixer, cause phasing will be introduced once you delay it a few milliseconds).
