I'm actually on your side in regards to capital punishment.
I don't see how giving them the easy way out helps anyone.
A quick and fairly painless death? or life in prison with no chance at being involved in society again, bathroom rapes, hiv.etc
If anything ever happened to me or my family, friends, that was serious enough to suggest either option to the criminal, I'd hope for hell on earth no question.
i don't support capital punishment. no matter what the crime.
-it isn't a deterrent from crime.
-the actual costs to execute a prisoner in the US is more then to just keep them in jail for the rest of their life.
- and the big one for me is if our justice system made a mistake. that just adds one victim to a crime. and no justice for that person's family or friends.
one mistake is enough to never have it in the first place. there are ways to try and rectify putting an innocent person in jail for 15 years. but there is no way to give back a life if we executed an innocent person.
all capital punishment is- is state sanctioned vengeance.
i have lost 2 friends DT violent crime. they were murdered. in both of those situations- i am satisfied that their murderers are in jail for the rest of their natural lives. (and may they rot there.)
I am completely for capital punishment, when a criminal/criminals are proven guilty 100%, from evidence in the case. That story that was posted was brutal. I can't even imagine the torture that guy endured. Can't believe this incident wasn't issued in the newspaper until now.
i understand the desire to make someone pay for such a heinous crime.. however, any sober analysis of available data verifies that executing prisoners is simply bad policy.. just because you think that guilt is 100% clear in a given case doesn't mean that there should be an official policy to put people to death, because the system isn't and never will be perfect.. and it's not morally acceptable to allow even a single person to be wrongly executed as part of the cost of doing business
If the criminal is found 100% fully guilty via complete evidence, camera, pleading guilty and etc, then it should be up to the victims family to decide on capital punishment or not imo. If someone tortured a loved one of mine I'd have no problem pulling the switch or the trigger on the criminal.
Also due to what crime it is, if you are really whacked out then you are kept from the other inmates so rape and shit does not imply to all criminals. Also lots of drug use in jail....just be high until you kick the bucket in your tiny cell. Also this may conflict with my my beliefs in favor of capital punishment but if I was sentenced for life then I'd hang myself in prison day 1.
