Aight. I've really put alot of time and effort into this one. There will be a few small revisions. If you want a 320 of the final mixdown, Post here or PM. I'll update this thread in a day or two when the final touches are put on it. It's quite complete tho.

It won't be for everyone - it's definately genre bending. Early morning vibrations for sure. For when you can "see the sun". Very melodic and lush.

For the producers - in this one I really tried to focus on the spacial qualities of a mix. I used light panning, reverb, EQ and compression in order to move things around and fit them all into the space, reflecting constantly on analogies of a photograph or film. While the main elements are relatively centered (drums and bass), I've accentuated the mix, by placing certain elements "behind" and to the left/right of those central elements. This gives sonic interest, as well as defining the space within which the song exists. The vocals are "wrapped around" the focal instruments, being set back with heavy reverb with little early reflections, mostly wet mix. Looking at a track like this has been one of the most beneficial excersizes in production. It ensured that I got it right - keeping the drums up front, and making me really think about and defining each instrument in the song.

Will do. I've been talking to some of the producers at dubstep forum and the consensus is that I should revisit the bass line, so I'm going to do that first.

I don't know where the vocals are from.
I scored them from Symbiant during a sample swap.
If someone could let me know, that would be fucking sweet tho! I'd love to hear the original. There wasn't much there to work with, and it was all wet...

Glad everyone is digging the vibes. I'm going to attempt something with a bit more floor friendly step in it next I imagine.

Most of those vocals are all from Euro Dance tunes which i scored off a buddy in college who is heavy into that shit.. Not sure what the original is. I have tons more like that that i didn't dump into my computer. Like billions of female Euro Dance Vocals. We'll link up and i can make you a copy of the actual cd...

I like fem vox.
There is a spectrasonics vox pack I'd probably purchase if I had more coin. It's got all kinds of world vox and shit.

After listening to this on my car stereo (where I can actually appreciate basslines) I have to agree with taking a look at the bass. It seems like the sub bass doesn't fit very well with the 'wobble' effect (no idea what it's actually called, but I think you know what I'm talking about) in the middle of the tune. Also it seems like right in the middle where it really drops, the drums make it seem like it's going to drop heavy, and the bass kinda disappoints.

Whatever you decide to go with in the end though it's a sick toon, I just wish you made dnb like this <3<3

:decklyn:

Yeah exactly - the wobble sucks :-). Thanks for the feedback, tho bro..

I still havn't had a chance. Been too busy drooling over future hardware additions. I've gotta come up with a pre-amp and a mic very shortly as we're recording some vocals demos here soontime (I'll snatch some sound for personal use of course)

I've got a few dnb tracks. I'll probably write a few shortly as an excersize. I've learned alot in the last couple months.

Word on making new dnb, I hope it's as chill and ethereal as this tune, I'd love to get my hands on some of that :D

So much dnb is all about complex drum lines, I love it when people strip it down (Mutt anyone? <3 )

 that's part of the appeal of dubstep atm.. stripped down beats!

definately feelin the 2 step elements in this one when they're brought in. other than that, i'm a hater when it comes to dubstep, it's just too slow, gnawmean?

i can't fault you on the production however. panning of elements is spot on, the atmospheres in the tune are large, and your programming is nice.

make some chilly chill dnb damnit :)

Oh I'm all about Dubstep, don't get me wrong. I love listening to it, but I spin dnb :) I don't want to start spinning dubstep, at least not yet just because I can barely afford dnb records as it is. Once I get cd decks and get in with more of the dubstep kids I'll probably get more into it, but for now my dj'ing rests with dnb ;)

there's a dubstep producer named sno, hehe..

I know, what a bastard. It's been my handle for like 10 years, too. It would have served me well to spin as, but I'll be fine with "Cirque" till he "disappears" *evil grin*.

Thanks bro! Working on anover currently. I havn't had space to listen to it proper, so it's prolly a touch wak. I'll work it out tho.

P.S. Jeph I tried to make some dnb today but it ended up as another dubstep piece.
I just can't do it yet. I'm addicted to the space afforded by slower tempos.
