Something i posted on the grid but though i would share
I used to use straight audio but i realized in my reason days it was all about transposing breaks (Tuning them together), And realizing that pitch shifting processing is not the most effective way to go and using a plug in just wastes CPU and makes your sessions a little unorganized.. So i sort of incorporated those things together. Not using reason but i now import single hits into Kontakt 2. Lots of control this way. Reasons being is now you can layer your hits (Kicks for an example) and EQ them together playing a key on your controller, also it is easier to hear the detuning in the sub frequencies of your kicks while they play together, also you can adjust the ADSR and it saves space on the drive in your audio bin folders. Keeping in mind if you use certain kicks that are from the same break as a snare you might want to keep those tuned in the same key and tune everything else around those drum hits. I realized this trying to EQ audio straight together and having serious problems with them as the harmonics show more stress of being out of tune with each other. Also i have a compressor on the outputs in Kontakt with what ever compression i feel that is best suited for the sounds. I like to have a low in my kick like a sub hit and some top end and mid to bring out the mallet strike. Same with snares i do the same brining out the mids to have more pop and some highs to smooth out the snap in the pop.. It's really all about using your ears. But when i am done making these i then bounce to audio and write my breaks out in audio tracks. At least this way it sounds cleaner and it saves tracks and not having to copy and paste like 10 drum tracks across the sequencer which a many of time i have done and some have been off grid.
