I wish i could help out. the most i have used it for was import Rex's. I don't touch logic no more. Kontakt 2 all the way.. I am sure someone with their Jedi powers will enlighten you...

I have logic platinum 6 - I can tell you how I do it...
did you want to create new instruments using samples (using the "exs 24 instrument edtor")
i.e adjusting the "zone range", "key note" etc. settings for your zone in your newly created instrument?
Are you familiar with what the zone range etc. is?

Actually how do you set it up so that you can transpose the note on a controller?

I'm assuming you want to take a high synth/wind sound and then make it into a bass sound?
I think you could change the key note (i.e. from C3 to C0) that might do the trick
Also, you can set your zone range fairly wide (from like C-2 to B6 or something), that way you can hit a lower key on the keyboard and it will give you a lower sound...

How do you set it? Do you have to manually change it or is there a way to have it all up and down the piano roll?

Ok – so first off, in Logic the EXS 24 is an audio instrument (which is similar to VSTs) so it is like a soft synth. I’m pretty sure you can only editor your instrument zones etc. if you have Logic (and it might need to be the full version).
When you are in the environment, you insert the EXS 24 into the insert slots one of your audio instruments (you can go either multi channel or stereo).
When you have inserted the EXS 24 you can click on it and open the instrument itself (or you may have it set up to open on insrert), and then you will see the virtual sampler pop up. Once the sampler has popped up there is a little window at the top with – and + signs on either sides – this lets you scroll through any existing EXS 24 instruments that you have. (You can either hit – or + of click on the window itself to get a pull down menu of existing instruments). At the bottom of the sampler there are also sliders for A/D/S/R which lets you adjust the sound. There is also a filter part where you can adjust the resonance and select HP/LP/BP filters etc. It is similar to using any other sampler.

To get into the EXS 24 Instrument editor (where you can program your own instruments or adjust the programming of the instrument) you need to go back into the Arrange window, then select “EXS 24 Instrument editor” for the Audio menu.

When the EXS 24 Instrument editor opens it looks like a grey screen with a few menus at the top. Select “new” from the instrument menu (or “open” to open an existing instrument). However, I will tell you a little bit about programming new instruments.
When the new instrument is open, you have to create a zone – do this by hitting ctrl Z or selecting “new” from the zone menu.
When the zone is open it looks like the window on the left. If you click on the empty space beside “audio file” it will bring you to your computer where you can preview and select the sample you want to use.
Once the sample is inserted, you can select the key note (the default is C3 so you can leave it there if you are not sure about changing it and it should be ok).
The zone range is next. You can select a zone range that is limited to 1 note (i.e. for drum kits) or that spans the whole keyboard (i.e. C-2 to B7). To input the range you can either use the note names or input the numerical midi values (i.e. 60 = C3).
The other boxes all help you customize the sound (i.e. volume, reverse, pan). Also, you can select whether you want the sample to loop or be “one hit” (i.e. for drum hits, hi hats).
An EXS 24 instrument can consist of 1 zone (i.e. if it is a synth or bass sound that has a zone range which spans the whole keyboard). It can also consist of multiple zones (i.e. for a drum kit you can insert your kick sound with a zone range of 1 note on C3, your snare with a zone range of 1 note on D3, your kick with a zone range of 1 note on E3 etc.)
Once you have the zones set up, save your instrument. Be careful about naming your instrument because as your instrument library gets bigger, you want to avoid having 2 instruments with the same name (this might cause the EXS problems).
This is the basics of setting up an instrument, after this you can put the instruments into groups and do loads of other stuff (you can also import files from other programs like recycle etc.) I'm no expert for all the advance features though:omg:
PS – Here’s a tutorial that might help. It’s a little old but talks about the basics.
