Featuring:
SEBA (SWEDEN) (SECRET OPERATIONS, GOOD LOOKING, METALHEADZ, SOUL:R, HOSPITAL)
Swedish producer Sebastian Ahrenberg has established a reputation as one of the finest purveyors of quality drum & bass over a distinguished career stretching back over 15 years. From his early tracks on LTJ Bukem’s ground-breaking label Good Looking Records to his more recent work across labels including Metalheadz, Soul:r, Hospital and his own Secret OperationsSeba's music has retained a timeless appeal and brings together beats and bass in classic yet inimitable style.
Originating from Ingaro, an island just outside Stockholm, Sebastian Ahrenberg started producing in the early 90s. Working with a basic home studio, he experimented with breakbeats and techno before finding his own unique style in drum and bass.Seba’s track 'Sonic Winds', written together with Lotek, was among his first drum and bass productions to be released, and was selected by label boss LTJ Bukem for his Logical Progression mix cd series. Further releases soon followed, from the sublime and soulful ‘Planetary Funk Alert’ to the rich and ethereal ‘Valley of the Moomins’, and marked Seba as one of the finest exponents of an emerging new style
To showcase his music and bring like-minded artists to his native shores, Seba started the club night Secret Operations in 1997. From humble beginnings in a cellar bar named Tuben in central Stockholm, the club went on to long run of successful nights. By 2003 the club had given rise to a record label with the same name. The first release 12inch single ‘Pieces/Banett’ by Seba and Lenk. Since then, the label has hosted Seba’s solo productions as well as work alongside his friend and fellow breakbeat pioneer, Paradox.
Released on Swedish label Svek, under the alias Sunday Brunch, his house productions include some of his first collaborations with long-term studio spars JesperDahlbäck and Robert Manos.
In late 2008 Seba released his first longplayer on Carharrt’s label Combination Records in conjunction with his own Secret Operations label. Described by Knowledge magazine as “an accomplished and timeless slice of drum & bass” (K-Mag Sept 2008), the album will no doubt stand the test of time and shows Seba at his best delivering classic sound.
Seba consider himself more of a musician than a DJ. He puts his music in focus, and uses DJ’ing as a way of presenting his own productions blended with other artists. His philosophy is that the promoters book him because they like what he do, not because he has the latest unreleased tracks in his bag. Be prepared to experience a DJ set with at least 70-80% of Seba’s finest productions.
SUBHUMAN (TORONTO) (DUBSLINGERS, FUTURA)
Combining moody atmospherics and heavyweight bass grooves, SubHuman has developed a signature sound over a dozen years of DJing through various genres from drum & bass to house. Reclusive yet deeply involved in the growth of Toronto’s dubstep scene since its early days and consistently pushing the deeper end of music, he has built a reputation for quality in mixing and production. A longtime resident DJ with the Futura and Dubslingers camps and currently playing guitars, keys and samples for various bands and musical projects, SubHuman continues to be an active and influential force in underground music.
PERCEPTOR
With a significant amount of precision and technical skill, I reformulate the compounds of already synthesized iterations of form and function across a wide bandwith of frequences into a single strand of cohesive breakbeat science, which is then tunneled through a mass of transistors, amplification units and bassbins to be aurally interpreted and synapsed from the ear to the central nervous system, often resulting in an unknown quantative of bodily movement and spacial displacement. .
